8vo, two volumes, fourth edition, pp,xvii,933, frontispiece to volume one and two hand-coloured plates, illustrations in text, original boards rebacked in contemporary style with paper printed labels to spines,  publisher's 16pp catalogue to the front of volume one, uncut, very old ink staines to the fore-edge of volume two, some foxing, a very good set.
Combe [1788-1858] was a lawyer.  He founded the Edinburgh Phrenological Society in 1820 and wrote "The Constitution of Man" [1828] later devoting years to promoting phrenology internationally.
